The Monarch Apartment Homes grand opening was everything we’d hoped it would be - for our organization, our residents, our partners and attendees. But, there was a beautiful, quiet moment right before our celebration began: the sight of a single Monarch butterfly floating through the agave, succulents, and desert plants now growing in the newly-constructed reflection garden.
A New Era for Affordable Housing Begins in Palm Springs
(Palm Springs, CA) - The Monarch Apartment Homes are now open. New residents are stepping over the threshold of their doorways for the very first time, beginning a new chapter for themselves, as well as The City of Palm Springs. Located at the corner of North Indian Canyon and East San Rafael Drive, this affordable housing community is a beautiful blend of mid-century modern design and the fulfillment of dreams for 60 families in Palm Springs and beyond.

Specializing in construction, multifamily unit renovations, property inspections, energy solutions, solar installation, plumbing, and HVAC maintenance services, CES Integrated plays a crucial role in CHOC's mission to enhance community living.

One of the most significant developments has involved CHOC Energy, the division of our organization that offers free weatherization and more energy savings programs to our community.
CHOC Community Impact is hard at work. Led by VP Terri Smyth Canillo, our Community Impact division recently traveled throughout Coachella Valley to build awareness regarding The Monarch Apartment Homes waitlist; this waitlist is now closed.

Under Vice President Fabiola Ortiz’s leadership, CHOC Energy is making bold moves in 2023. Specializing in the deployment of the Energy Savings Assistance Program (ESAP) for disadvantaged communities throughout California, CHOC Energy, a division of CHOC, currently offers free weatherization services, including attic insulation, duct sealing, minor home repairs and appliance replacements across Northern California. As we look back on 2022, our hearts are full. This year, we saw the groundbreaking of Placita Dolores Huerta in Coachella, significant progress on The Monarch Apartments in Palm Springs, expansion of CHOC Energy, and many more pivotal moments. It’s been a year full of connecting with those who matter most — and celebrating accomplishments both large and small.
Five months after the groundbreaking, our new affordable housing community in Coachella, California, is becoming a reality. Named in tribute to Dolores Huerta, the iconic American labor leader and civil rights activist, Placita Dolores Huerta involves new construction that includes 60 additional apartments.
The Monarch Apartment Homes is rising in the City of Palm Springs. Offering 60 apartment homes, the affordable housing community will feature clean lines and single-sloped roofs, similar to the ‘butterfly’ roofs known throughout Palm Springs as an iconic mid century-modern element.
Every week in the summer, AmeriCorps VISTA Summer Associates sit alongside children encouraging them through reading exercises and boosting confidence. Through the Summer Enrichment Program (SEP), together CHOC and United Way are making impactful strides in advancing education equity.

Clear blue skies and a stunning desertscape welcomed attendees on October 28, 2021 to the historic groundbreaking of the Monarch Apartment Homes in Palm Springs this October, including government dignitaries, local neighbors, and members of CHOC board and staff.
Let’s get our communities vaccinated! Now that the COVID-19 vaccine is widely available in the United States, the nationwide effort to vaccinate is at the forefront. CHOC, as a leading nonprofit developer of affordable housing communities, has established a new resource to help our residents receive the COVID-19 vaccine at on-site vaccination clinics.
